M Karunanidhi's funeral procession draws throngs of followers

Tens of thousands of people including the who's who of politics and south cinema took part in the funeral procession of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi. The mortal remains are being taken from Rajaji Hall via Sivananda Salai passing by Periyar’s statue and to Anna statue. From there, the procession will take the Walajah road and reach Anna Square on Kamarajar Salai and his remains will be laid to rest there. DMK party urged his followers to remain calm during the procession and pay their final respects to the unmatched leader of Tamilians. M Karunanidhi passed away on August 07, 2018 after a prolonged illness. Born in Thirukkuvalai village in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi entered politics at the age of 14. As he struck a chord with the local community, he became a student leader. At the age of 33, he won the first assembly election from Kulithalai constituency in 1957. He completed 60 years as a legislator after winning 13 assembly elections in a row. He was the only Indian politician, who had completed almost 50 years as president of a political party.
