Russia: Spectacular pictures from Victory Day celebrations

A grand celebration was organised by Russia to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Russian security forces took part in the military parade, which also displayed the modern weaponry. Air Force pilots stole the show by performing death-defying stunts. Russian President Vladimir Putin appreciated Soviet contributions to the defeat of fascism during the World War II. He also warned the enemy countries that any misadventure would end in the same defeat. "Each family holds a sacred memory of those who were victorious. And we will always be proud of their feat," he said. Putin said Russia consistently defends international law, firmly protects its national interests, and ensures the security of its people. "This is reliably guaranteed by the valiant Armed Forces of Russia, the heirs of the soldiers of victory," Putin said. Vladimir Putin also observed a minute silence with other guests and dignitaries to pay tribute to the numerous Soviet soldiers, who sacrificed their lives during the war.
