The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which is being built between the two middle eastern countries through Ethiopia and Egypt is worrying the people of the smaller neighbouring country, Sudan. The construction of the dam began as early as 2011. This dam is being built by Ethiopia to utilise the hydropower of the Blue Nile. Sudanese are worrying that the dam would weaken the force of the Blue Nile, which makes up to 86% source of the Nile. Nile has always been an important source of livelihood for the people living near the riverbanks of Sudan. The water from here is used for moulding bricks, farming, fishing, and cooking among others. People, who are living in the convergence area of Blue and White Nile also fear about the loss in livelihood due to scarcity of water and clay. While few people also acknowledge the benefit of dam as it would prevent flooding and displacing of masses.
